Obesity or corpulence is a condition of the body characterized by over-accumulation of fat under the skin and around certain of the internal organs. In Ayurveda, obesity is known as Medo Roga. It is simply defined as the condition in which excessive amount of fat is accumulated in the body.

Cause of Obesity:

It may be due to the disturbances of some of the endocrine glands, like the thyroid, pituitary and sex glands. In some families obesity is transmitted from one generation to the other, but in most cases it is the direct result of a life of ease and over-eating. A luxurious inactive or sedentary life is a well-recognized predisposing cause. The more immediate cause is over feeding and excess of liquor. The indulgence is food beyond what is required to repair the daily waste goes towards the increase of fat. Those addicted to liquor are particularly affected if they eat a normal diet since what is not generally realized is that alcohol meets the immediate energy needs of the body and the food that is eaten is deposited in the form of fat. Particularly guilty in this respect is to intake of fatty, sugary and starchy foods. Alcoholic liquors, particularly beer, contain sugar and contribute to the deposition of fat on the body. Women are more prone to obesity, particularly after childbirth. In our country, this is especially true because the new mother is fed on fatty and starchy foods under the impression that the blood loss attendant on delivery must be made up by extra rich diet.

Obesity Relief:

 - Honey when taken with lime juice with hot water empty stomach is very effective in   reducing the weight.

 - Consuming tomato is also another good remedy to reduce the weight.

 - Triphala is another herbal combination that is very effective in reducing the fat content in the body.

 - Consuming cabbage is also very helpful in reducing weight. Whenever you eat food cabbage should definitely be included in diet.

 - Two spoon of freshly derived lime juice in warm water is also a good remedy to decrease the weight.

 - Consuming lemon tea is also a good method to reduce weight.

 - Exercise. A meal plan will favor burnings but you need to help your body. Any exercise you do will greatly improve your results, even if it's just more walking each day.

 - A hipbath for 15 to 20 minutes in the morning and evening along with the diet and the exercise recommended would speed up the process of losing fat.

 - Foods that are excessively rich in carbohydrates must be avoided.

1. Grind the leaves of the Indian plum (jambula). Exude their paste in water and gargle with this water. It will give immediate relief from the pains of the mouth ulcers.

2. Gargling with the water of the adulsa (Justicia adhadota) also brings about an immediate relief from the mouth ulcer pains.

3. Mix the peel of a lemon with white catechu. Grind them into a very fine paste. Apply this directly on the ulcer. The ulcer will get treated almost immediately.

4. Take two to three leaves of the guava tree and some catechu. Chomp them together. This will cure even the most persistent of ulcers within a few days.

5. Mix some catechu in water till it gets a pasty consistency. Apply this paste on the ulcers.

6. Mix a ripe banana in curds that have been prepared from cow’s milk. Eat this as a dessert.

7. When ulcers occur in the mouth, hot and spicy food must be stopped immediately.

8. Consuming more greens in the diet helps to be ever-protected from ulcers. Greens also provide the necessary fiber for the movement of bowels. This prevents constipation.

9. Papaya is a very good fruit to be consumed when you have mouth ulcers.

10. A decoction of the bark of the banyan tree reduces the pain caused by mouth ulcers.

11. The chebulic myrobalan is a component of the Triphala choorna, of which the amalaki is also an essential component.

12. Fenugreek leaves help in the treatment of mouth ulcers. An infusion of these leaves is used for gargling.

13. Henna is a cooling herb. It can provide a soothing effect on the ulcers

14. The Indian gooseberry or amalaki has a dual effect on ulcers.

15. Kattha is an extract of the Acacia catechu plant, known commonly in the west as the catechu plant.

Home Remedies for Hiccups

Hiccup is an involuntary and sudden contraction of the muscles of the diaphragm. Normally, this action is repeated many times. A weird sound (hic) is produced. The sound is because of the epiglottis which closes when air suddenly tries to rush in. Hiccups are not as painful usually, though they can be very irritating at times. When they continue for a long period, they are very irritating.

Hiccups are also part of the body's defense system. If you swallow a large piece of meat or drink plenty of fluids, the glottis (the opening from the mouth to the throat) automatically closes to prevent food from getting into the wind¬pipe. At the same time, the diaphragm forces the food upward by contracting its muscles. When the danger has passed, the nerves of the diaphragm and glottis relax. If they don't, a person has hiccups.

Causes of Hiccups:

1. If you eat too fast, you can swallow air along with your food and end up with a case of the hiccups.

2. In these instances, your stomach, which sits underneath and adjacent to the diaphragm, is distended or stretched.

3. Sobbing or crying

4. Consuming very hot food.

5. Consuming excessive alcohol or soda.

6. Coughing badly.

7. Laughing badly.

Treatment of Hiccups:

1. Holding your breath and counting to 10 is one way some people can get rid of their hiccups. Other people say that drinking from the "wrong" side of a glass of water is the way to become hiccup-free.

2. Putting sugar under your tongue might work.

3. Pound 5-6 green cardamom. Boil in 2 cups of water. When it boils down to 1cup remove, sieve and drink while warm.

4. Drinking water frequently in short durations is also helpful.

5. Eating a bowl full of yogurt with a pinch of salt is also a good home remedy.

13. For acute hiccoughs, Mayurpichcha mashi is given along with ginger and honey.

1. Carob powder In a Canadian study of 230 infants with diarrhea only three were not cured by the addition of carob 'powder to their formula.

2. Avoid Apple cider vinegar For a preventive measure start taking a teaspoon of vinegar and a teaspoon of honey in a glass of water half an hour before each meal a few days before your trip.

3. Use Yogurt This seems to be beneficial in maintaining or restoring the health of the intestinal tract.

4. Do Ginger tea can stop cramps and pain. Or take Ginger in capsules.

5. The normal functioning of the intestinal tract depends upon the presence of adequate fibre - the kind that absorbs water and forms soft bulk. Fibre like bran. Bran relieves both constipation and diarrhea.

6. Lemon juice Drinking the juice of a freshly squeezed lemon in a large glass of water three to five times a day will kill off the pathogens causing the diarrhea.

7. Wild oregano oil acts as an antibacterial, anti parasitic, and antiviral agent. Thus, it can address the root cause and help to treat the bacteria, virus, or parasite causing the diarrhea.

8. Wear Wheatgrass powder is supposedly effective for treating diarrhea from irritable bowel syndrome.

9. Brown rice and toasted whole grain bread are traditional home remedies for diarrhea that my grandmother used and with good reason.

10. Homeopathic Arsenicum enables you to eliminate toxins after eating spoilt food, but will control the diarrhea.

11. Avoid drinking non caffeinated and non alcoholic fluids whilst feeling sick. Skip apple juice however but choose ginger ale and carrot juice instead.

Some of the most common causes of dandruff include:

 Treatment of Dandruff:

1) Use a medicated shampoo. The medicated shampoo will reduce the speed of the growth of the cells on the scalp, thus lessening the cell replacement and decreasing the amount of dandruff. The shampoo should also have an antiseptic that will help prevent infection of your scalp so as to reduce itchiness.

2) Shampoo more often, up to three times a week using medicated shampoo until the situation is controlled. Then, continue use of the medicated shampoo once every week.

3) Stop using gels, hairsprays and hair-coloring products. If you must use them, do not use them excessively and learn the proper use of such products.

4) Don’t scratch the scalp when it is itchy. This will cause the problem to worsen.

5) If the problem is severe, see your doctor for anti-inflammatory cream for your scalp or anti-dandruff tablets to ingest.

6) Break 2 eggs, scramble and apply on the head. Leaves on the hair for 15 minutes, massage, and wash off with cold water so it won't stick into the hair.

7) Cook 2 beetroots in water, when soften mash in the water and use the beetroot water as a shampoo.

8) Get into a steamy bath or sauna to treat the dandruff.

9) Apple Apple cider vinegar is known to be very effective as a dandruff remedy. Apply some on your hair when taking a shower.

10) Olive oil is very good for the hair and the scalp. Apply some olive oil on your scalp for 15 minutes and wash off.

11) Add Lime juice can also be used as a remedy for dandruff.

12) Fenugreek seeds are another excellent home remedy for dandruff:

•    Take 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds and soak overnight in water

•    In the morning grind the soft seeds into a fine paste

•    Apply this paste all over scalp and leave for half an hour

•    Rinse off thoroughly with soap nut solution

•    A teaspoon of lime juice on the last rinse will work wonders

13) Apply baby oil to the entire head in the evening, wrap your head with a towel and leave on until morning then shampoo. Use the baby oil daily until all dandruff is gone.

Treatment of Constipation:

1) Fiber is brilliant for largely intestinal health and for alleviating chronic constipation so try to include fibre in your diet. .

2) 8 ounce of milk should be mixed with about 3 ounces of prune juice in addition to little drops of licorice extract and should be taken in morning to treat constipation as soon as possible.

8) Immerse 10-12 big raisins in a cup of milk and bring to boil, first eat the raisins then drink the milk.

10) Make a simple spinach and water soup and add a little salt. Another gentle yet effective home remedy for constipation relief - soothes and stimulates your bowels.

11) Bael fruit (Aegle marmelos) The fruit of the bael is an effective laxative.

12) Linseed is extremely helpful in complicated cases of constipation. A teaspoon of linseeds, swallowed with water before each meal, gives both bulk and lubrication.

12) Get Steamed - Clear congestion and relieve a dry cough by taking a hot steamy shower. Or make a steam tent by draping a towel over your head above a bowl of boiling water.

13) Keep Your Germs to Yourself - Cough and blow away, but do it into a disposable tissue instead of sharing them! Then promptly throw the tissue away and wash your hands.

14) Liquids - Drink six to eight glasses of water, juice, tea, and other mostly clear liquids daily to keep the body hydrated and to flush out impurities.

3. Decrease fat intake by 20-30 grams per day as in liver damage bile secretion and digestion is affected that hinders the fat absorption.

4. Alcoholic drinks even in small amounts should be avoided.

5. Wash 3-4 leaves of sacred fig. Mash them with sugar candy and mix it in 250 mg of water, drink twice a day after sieving the mixture.

6. Take one pinch of black pepper mixed in buttermilk for at least seven days.

7. Take one teaspoonful of glucose in one cup of water thrice a day in the morning, afternoon and night.

8. Keep a white-coloured glass bottle filled with water in the sun for 6-8 hours and drink it after cooling

9. Drink spearmint juice with added sugar for 10 days

10. Take juice of 2 oranges empty stomach for 5-7 days.

11. Take 50 grams of white radish leaves and stem, add sugar candy in it and drink it every morning with empty stomach.

12. Daily intake of a pinch of roasted alum with buttermilk twice or thrice daily is highly beneficial in treating liver damage.

13. Half-cup beetroot with squeezed half lemon is also effective.

14. Mix an equal amount of water in milk and some fennel or dry ginger about 1 gram and boil it in iron pan. This mixture can be drunk after adding sugar.

15. Fresh Indian gooseberry 25 mg taken with water thrice a day for 15-20 days cures all liver problems

16. Squeeze a lemon in 100 grams of water and add a pinch of salt, drink thrice a day for 21 days.

17. Take one and a half gram jaggery and harad ka chilka in equal amounts and make one tablet out of it. Take one tablet daily in the morning and evening with warm water for a month.

18. Half-cup juice of bathu with little salt is also helpful.

19. Cut a lemon into two pieces and remove the seeds of one half. Now cut this into four parts. In one part put black pepper, in one black salt, in one dry ginger and in one sugar candy. Cover at night with a plate and in the morning one hour before having food warm this lemon in a pan and suck it. Take this for at least 21 days.

20. Buttermilk taken with a little salt and powdered roasted cumin seeds is very beneficial for the liver.
