What is on my mind right now is the fact that too many people are lacking the appropriate information about how to manage their finances for the present and the future.  Today, I say that it is important to take a good look at your personal financial situation.  Ask yourself are you handling your finances or are your finances handling you?  For many of you, filing taxes is on your mind at the begining of the year.  Unless you have to pay in which you may be waiting until April.  Either way u you have begun to receive yearly statements from your 2008 employers which tells you just how much money you made last year.  What should immediately come to mind is how much of my net income can I actually account for?  Have I saved atleast 20-30% of my household income?  If the answer is no then you likely need to sit down and begin a discussion with your spouse, or significant other, or yourself about what has happend to the money that you were supposed to have saved last year.  If you find that you did not save because you have been living beyond your means all year, and the annualized amount on your w-2 is less than what you actually needed to live, then I would suggest that you consider adding some additional income.  However if you find that you have not saved because you have found it more rewarding to spend your extra money on enjoying life, then lets dig a little deeper.  What is more important to you, having the latest clothes and handbags now or receiving welfare at retirment.  Is looking cute on a Friday night worth not being able to provide a college education for your son who wants to become the next president?  Is eating out 5 times a week worth not protecting your family against an unforseen circumstance like death or disablity?  I would be willing to bet that most people would not risk the lives of thier family for such miniscule purchases in the grand scheme of life.  However, most people never thing that far.  Most people don't think that a tragedy could strike their family, they could lose their job, or their child may not get the full ride scholarship they deserve.  But the fact is that these things could happen.  For 2-5 dollars per day most people could begin a solid program that would protect and prepare them for the future.  A plan that would allow your family to live the life you planned at retirement, to send your child to college, and to make sure that no life circumstances throws you off your path to financial secuity in life.  More to be continued.
